We’ll kick off our retreat with a casual meet-and-greet at Pan Pacific Park, where you'll get to know fellow artists and set your creative intentions for the trip. Afterward, we’ll enjoy a group dinner and an optional post-dinner hangout to soak in the energy of the city. This is a great chance to connect, share your artistic journey, and get inspired for the days ahead!

We’ll start the day drawing at The Broad Museum, focusing on the relationship between scale and human presence in our sketches. Afterward, we’ll explore Little Tokyo, taking in the neighborhood’s rich culture and history while finding artistic inspiration along the way. The afternoon wraps up with an art career workshop on networking, where we’ll discuss how to connect with industry professionals and build meaningful relationships in the creative world.

Today’s adventure takes us to The Huntington Library, where we’ll immerse ourselves in nature and challenge ourselves to design characters inspired by plants. After sketching and exploring the gardens, we’ll dive into a workshop focused on monetizing your art career, covering key strategies for turning your creativity into a sustainable income. The day concludes with an optional visit to a local gallery for more artistic inspiration.
-
We’ll start our morning with beachside sketching, focusing on composing scenes with varied horizon lines to create dynamic compositions. In the afternoon, we’ll hold two industry-focused workshops: one on pitching a graphic novel and another on what to expect in an animation or graphic novel career in 2025. These sessions will provide insider knowledge and practical tips to help you navigate the creative industry.
-
On our final day, we’ll meet in Echo Park for a storytelling challenge, creating a 4-panel comic or an illustration based on a favorite memory from the retreat. In the afternoon, we’ll have a portfolio and peer review session, offering feedback and guidance to help refine your work. We’ll celebrate our creative journey with a final group dinner, and for those who want to end on a high note, an optional goodbye karaoke party!
